Laser Hair Removal and Sun Exposure

Laser Hair Removal and Sun Exposure

Whether it is running out to the beer garden or jetting off on holiday to a sunny destination, many of us want to lap up the sun. However, we must remember that laser hair removal and sun exposure needs to be taken seriously to avoid sun damage. While the sun provides us with vitamin D and keeps us healthy, prolonged sun exposure and/or not enough coverage can be detrimental to our health.

What Do Laser Hair Removal Machines Do To The Skin?

Laser hair removal lasers warm up the skin when they are used. At Laser it, we use a top of the range machine with freeze technology. This means that our treatments are amongst the most comfortable. However, it is still imperative to keep your skin hydrated and protected against the sun.

Wear Sunscreen

No matter how light or dark you are, it is crucial to wear an SPF like this Environ sun cream after you have had laser hair removal treatment. After laser hair removal, your skin is more sensitive due to being warmed up by the laser. You must wear an SPF to prevent any damage from the sun, no matter what time of year it is.

After you have been out in the sun, remember to use an after sun care product such as an aloe gel.

What about sunbeds and going to a hot destination?

If you use sunbeds, it is important that you make this aware to your laser hair removal therapist during your consultation. As a general rule, it is advised to avoid using sunbeds three days before treatment. If your skin is burnt or tender, your laser hair removal therapist will ask you to postpone your appointment. Similarly, you must avoid using the sunbed for four days after laser hair removal treatment.

If you have a holiday booked, make this aware to your laser hair therapist too. Your skin type and sensitivity is important when having your treatment. It is possible to have laser removal if your skin has darkened sue to sun or sunbed exposure. However, the tan must not be active.

At Laser it, we asses your skin type during your consultation and check each time you step through the doors for your next appointment.

The bottom line

Enjoy the sunny weather in the UK and abroad responsibily. Try to stay out of direct sunlight and when you do go out in it, be sure to wear an SPF. When you are having your laser hair removal treatment, be sure to avoid the use of sunbeds and going out in the sun 3 days before and 4 days after. If you have been on a sunbed or out in the sun, tell your laser hair therapist.
